ROSH LEWIS

LEAD TEACHER - PROPRIETOR

I trained and qualified as an ASA Level 2 swimming teacher (now known as British Swimming) in 2007. Currently alongside running Seals I work part-time as a PE teacher in local independent school

I have always swum and taken part in water sports. I can often be in lakes and the sea with friends and family in my spare time. I particularly enjoy open water swimming and spend many of my summer weekends taking part in various events. These have included marathon swims, one being a 3 person channel crossing.

Prior to Seals, I worked as a Teacher for a number of local swim schools and leisure Centres. Delivering courses in children’s swimming, baby and pre-school, special needs, adult lessons, water polo, personal survival and Rookie Lifeguard. In addition to these teaching roles I am also an ASA Level 2 Coach, I have coached preparing children for their first gala's up to gaining their county qualifying times.

My qualifications

ASA Level 1 Certificate in Teaching Swimming: September 2005

ASA Level 2 Certificate in Teaching Swimming: May 2007

ASA Adult and Child Water Activities: October 2009

ASA Level 2 Coaching Swimming: April 2015

National Rescue Award for Swimming Teachers and Coaches (inc infant life support): Up-dated every 2 years.

I am a member of the STA, British Swimming and the institute of Swimming. In addition I am a member of
the RLSS.

To maintain my professional qualifications and standards, I have an enhanced DBS check, undertake regular Safeguarding Training and attend Professional Development courses.

PAUL LEWIS - VOLUNTEER TEACHER and ADMINISTRATOR

I am mainly behind the scenes of Seals helping with the administration, I can also be found writing badges, occasionally I cover teach.

I am a lifelong swimmer having competed for Leatherhead Swimming Club as a child and into my 20’s getting as far as National Level. I became involved in teaching and coaching whilst in my teens at Leatherhead. I wanted to give something back to the sport, that I have gained so much from (including my wife)

I qualified as an ASA Level 2 teacher in late 1990’s. I have taught a wide variety of people to swim, children and adults, the elderly coupled with coaching a county squad, under the guidance of an international
head coach.

More recently I swum across the Solent and 14km down the Thames between Henley and Marlow bridges.

LAURA BURCHETT
SWIMMING TEACHER

I first decided to become a swimming instructor when I took my daughter to her swimming lessons.

The instructor was raving about the job and said it was the best thing she had ever done! So I researched the courses I needed to do and I became an ASA Level 2 swimming instructor in November 2016.

Since then I have loved working in different environments and have not looked back! I am extremely passionate about teaching swimming and have thoroughly enjoyed working at Seals since April 2017.

I love making the lessons fun and aim to give the children a great introduction to swimming so they always have a smile on their face. That is always how I have felt in the pool and I am over the moon to say I feel the same way as my daughter’s swimming teacher felt about her work.

Lucy Ashdown-parkes SWIMMING TEACHER

Lucy is an exceptionally well-qualified instructor, she holds her Level 2 Teacher and Coach qualifications, Parent and Child Qualification, and STA Disability Swimming Certificate. Alongside this Lucy is a tutor for the RLSS, delivering courses and
training in Lifesaving.

She has much experience teaching and coaching locally in private swim schools and leisure centres. Previously teaching at Oakhyrst Grange School, she is currently the swimming teacher at The Yehudi Menuhin School, along with being a squad coach at
Croydon Amphibians.

Lucy is a passionate open-water marathon swimmer, with 3 English Channel crossings and the North Channel to her name. Rosh has taught and swum with Lucy for over 10 years. We are really happy she has
joined our team.

CAROLE SHAW
SWIMMING TEACHER

I was a Scottish Junior national, I've lived locally most of my life swimming competitively for a Croydon swimming club. I still enjoy swimming myself going regularly, particularly open water swimming.

I qualified as a swimming teacher almost 20 years ago, I love teaching all abilities and ages from beginners to competitive swimmers. I am also qualified to deliver lifesaving courses.

I've been working along side Rosh at Cumnor House School for Girls since September 2019. I've worked at various local swim schools. Prior to joining Cumnor, I was swimming development manager for Sutton High School for Girls for 3 years.

Louise Murrell
SWIMMING TEACHER

I have always had a passion for swimming. As a child, I was a successful competitive swimmer competing at regional level. I still continue to swim, training with a Masters squad twice a week.

I decided to train as swimming teacher in 2016 after being inspired by taking my children to their swimming lessons. Since gaining my ASA Level 2 Teacher qualification, I have had experience working with all ages and abilities from pre-school children up to adults and beginners to competitive swimmers. I am also an ASA Level 2 Swim Coach, working closely with the head coach and squads at a local competitive club. I have had success in developing children to county and regional level standard.

I aim to make my lessons fun and varied within a positive and safe environment. I love to see my swimmers progress and reach their individual goals but mostly enjoy themselves!
